Trigger Point Injection Treatment

During this procedure, a healthcare professional inserts a tiny needle into the trigger point of a patient. Containing a local anesthetic or saline, the injection may include a corticosteroid. Once the injection is administered, the trigger point is made inactive and the pain the patient is feeling is alleviated. Most of the time, a minor course of action can result in sustained relief. Injections are given at our clinic and normally take a few minutes. If necessary, several sites may be injected in one visit.

When Are Trigger Point Injections Used?

Trigger point injections are used to treat many muscle groups that are in pain, especially the muscle groups found in the lower back, neck, arms, and legs. Trigger point injections can also be used to treat headaches from tension and fibromyalgia. The procedure is also used to treat chronic pain in the tissue that surrounds the muscle when other treatments do not work.
